Why start this newsletter?
Since Lillie News and its local paper The Roseville Review went out of business in 2019, Roseville, Minnesota has been without a community newspaper. While major news lands in the Pioneer Press or the Minnesota Star Tribune, or statewide television and radio reports, the smaller stories and information about what’s happening in our city go underreported. Without independent journalism reporting on Roseville on a regular basis, community members are left without a local news source they can trust. The Roseville Reader is one response to this hole in the heart of our community.
At this time, I cannot replicate a full newspaper. (I have another full time job!) Maybe one day our city will have a bigger newspaper again. For now, my focus is on information and stories developed from Roseville City Council meetings, Roseville Area School Board meetings, local elections, and issues impacting the community. Once a month, I will also publish a roundup of links to articles about Roseville from other local news sources. I will not be covering crime, school sports, obituaries, or curating a calendar of community events. As subscribers grow and more content areas are developed, this publication may grow too, as capacity allows.
