Growth, goals, and good news
Big things happening at The Roseville Reader
Hello Readers!
I am writing today with some behind the scenes updates about what's happening at The Roseville Reader. I had a whole year-in-review post ready to go for the beginning of January, but more significant news took precedent. I can't wait any longer to fill you in on some exciting updates.
I'll give you a peek behind the curtain at The Roseville Reader's growth and impact, fiscal sponsorship, future goals, and our new brand design!
Membership Growth
The Roseville Reader launched in September 2024 as an experiment because I wanted something like this to exist for Roseville residents like me. In January 2025, there were 200 total subscribers. Relying mainly on word-of-mouth and the sharing of articles, The Roseville Reader grew to 1,000 subscribers by the end of December 2025. By March 2026, this jumped up to nearly 1,500! Around 20% of subscribers are voluntarily paying, which is why The Roseville Reader can continue. I've always wanted to make this publication as accessible as possible (free to read), because local news matters. But publishing free news isn't free to publish. Thank you to those of you who are supporting this publication.

Here's what paid subscriptions support:
- Compensation for the editor/publisher of The Roseville Reader
- Equipment
- Local freelance writers
- Marketing
- Tech to power this website
- Business operations (insurance, supplies, design, finance, etc.)
