Eat local with You Me Food Review
You know the feeling you get when you’re the first one to tell all of your friends about the amazing new restaurant that just opened before they even know it exists? If you don’t, you’re in luck, because an amazing new restaurant has just opened up right in Falcon Heights! Now that you know, go and tell your friends! They’ll thank you later!
On Hamline Avenue, just north of Hoyt at 1579B Hamline Ave N, in Falcon Heights, Miss Laos Papaya opened on September 20, 2026.

The spot was previously occupied by Sumo and Smoh, The Eggroll Queen, and long ago The Underground Music Cafe. Newly renovated with a cozy amount of seating inside, My Lao and her family have opened up a restaurant featuring the recipes My grew up with in Laos, a country sandwiched between Thailand and Vietnam. Some of the dishes were unfamiliar to us, but many of the dishes were recognizable favorites like Pad Thai, fried rice, spring rolls, and curry.
At our server’s suggestion, Susan tried a dish that was new to us: Pad Kra Pao. Described as a spicy Thai street stir-fry with rice, holy basil, chili, garlic, a fried egg, and your choice of protein. Susan chose crispy pork belly. Amy was somewhat overwhelmed by the choices in the sizable menu, and went with the Red Curry, a delicious soup with a base of coconut milk and red curry paste, that comes with a bowl of rice to add into the soup.
We were both very pleased with our meals, and Amy was left with enough left overs to bring home for the next day. While we were eating we saw a neighboring table get something that looked intriguing: a large platter of a variety of appetizers. Maybe that’s what we will try next time.
The welcome sign on their door reads “Authentic Lao and Thai Flavors, Made Fresh with Love.” We agree! Miss Laos Papaya is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-8pm. You can find them on Facebook and on TikTok.
