Roseville School Board Bulletin
What to expect at the May 13 Roseville Area School Board meeting
Special Board Meeting Summary
The Roseville Area School Board met on Friday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. for a Special Board Meeting to review bids for student transportation services for the next school year. During the bidding process, the current transportation services company, Centerline Corporation, withdrew their bid. District administration recommended rejecting all bids and requested the school board’s authorization to enter into negotiations with the bidders directly, with the possibility of splitting the contract between more than one provider. Shari Thompson, executive director of business services, said that doing so would be in compliance with the law. The school board voted unanimously to accept this recommendation.
An update and a recommendation for a 3-year contract will be brought to the May 13 school board meeting for review and a vote.

The consent agenda also includes a resolution to authorize membership in the Minnesota State High School League for high school athletics and fine arts.
Policy 616: Instructional Materials Selection
The board will do a first reading of a revision to a policy regarding the selection of instructional materials, adding language addressing the selection of library materials into the same policy. Jake Von De Linde, executive director of teaching and learning, will present the recommendation to add new language which delegates the responsibility of choosing library materials to a licensed library media specialist, an individual with a mater’s degree in library science or library and information science, or a professional librarian or a person trained in library collection management. The draft adds library materials alongside instructional materials in the rest of the policy, which outlines the criteria for how these materials are selected. There is also a new item added to the considerations for choosing materials: “support reading for pleasure.” The draft revisions to the policy can be found linked in the agenda.
Action Items
The board will be voting on three action items at the meeting:
Transportation Services Contract, presented by Thompson
2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school year calendar adjustment, presented by Melissa Sonnek, associate superintendent.
Setting closed sessions for May 27 and June 10, 2025 to evaluate the performance of the superintendent and considering strategy for labor negotiations.

New Course Proposals
Von De Linde will provide the board with a summary of the new courses proposed for the 2026-2027 school year. The three courses being proposed are:

Security and Technology Levy
Shari Thompson, executive director of business services, and Tina Clasen, technology supervisor, will provide information about the financial support needed to maintain technology and security needs for the district’s twelve buildings and more than 1.6 million square feet of property.
