Neighbors driving neighbors to the polls
Need a ride to vote in the Roseville area?
Need a ride to vote? A group of Roseville area residents have organized to provide rides to the polls for people who need it. This non-partisan effort is completely grassroots—neighbors helping neighbors.
"We're offering rides to the polls because we know that in order for democracy to work well and be effective, everyone needs to participate. In this moment where our democracy is threatened we know it's important to eliminate barriers people have to casting their vote, and transportation is one of those barriers," said Meggan Gardener, one of the volunteer drivers.
Anyone who lives in Roseville, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Saint Anthony Village who needs a ride can request one. That person will be matched with a volunteer, who will coordinate with them directly to make a plan to pick them up.
"If the rider requests assistance with getting into the building or the act of voting the driver can do that, otherwise the driver will wait in the car. We do have a handicap accessible van available," Gardener said.
Gardener, a Falcon Heights resident, said most of the volunteers live in the Roseville Area School district. Some of them have been election judges in the past. Gardener said she received volunteer driver training from Minnesota Voice, which is also offering rides to the polls in Roseville and beyond.
"This training included information about safety protocols and what to do if we encounter ICE or other federal agencies at the polls or en route to polls, and it has been shared with the volunteer drivers in our group," said Gardener.

She met many of the other local volunteers at an Election Defense training held by Monarca in June 2026. After the training, participants got into smaller groups organized by geographic neighborhood. She and some of the others from that group have been meeting together every Wednesday, in part to develop the volunteer driver initiative.
"Over the past several months we've brought in other neighbors who were interested in participating too. It has been a really fun way to get to know more people in our community and be active in civic engagement," Gardener said.
She also went to the Roseville "No Kings Vote Early" demonstration on October 17 and advertised the opportunity with her signs.
The group is not officially part of another organization, but the offer to provide rides is listed on the Rise Up Roseville website, a new nonprofit forming in Roseville.
The group is offering rides to early voting locations this week and on Election Day, November 3, 2026.
