Reports and Non-Action Items
School Board Governance Policies - First Reading
The school board will be reviewing the School Bord Governance Policies (200 series), which relate to the responsibilities of school board governance. The board governance policy review task force met on Sept. 29 to discuss and finalize proposed revisions to this series of policies.
If you have questions about what the school board does, what they're allowed to do, and how they operate, this would be a good series of policies to review.

Policy 584: Collection, Maintenance, Use and Release of Student Educational Data (reviewed) - First Reading
Maura Weyandt, associate superintendent, will review this policy. No changes are recommended. It was last revised in February 2023.
Harambee Elementary School Calendar Transition Update
The principal of Harambee Elementary School, Nathan Meyer, and Harambee environmental education specialist Jenny Eckman, will provide an update on the school's transition from a year-round calendar to a 9-month calendar and the process for creating a new vision for Harambee.
On April 18, 2025, the Roseville Area School Board approved the transition to a 9-month calendar. The administration recommended this change because it would help students have a seamless pre-K to 12 experience with a calendar that aligned with other schools in the district, consistency for families for school breaks, and to bolster enrollment, which has dropped from 400 to 250 students since 2015.
As a result of this decision, Harambee embarked on a process to create a new vision for the school. This process involves students, families, and external partners BrightWorks and Captivate Media.
The biggest shift as a result of this visioning process is a renewed focus on environmental education and the hiring of environmental education specialist Jenny Eckman.
Harambee has an outdoor classroom and 14 acres of land with trails. The next step in realizing this vision is to become an official "Minnesota DNR School Forest."
A school forest is an outdoor classroom where students explore the natural world to learn about core subjects, such as math, science, reading, writing, geography, physical education, the arts, and others, according to the Minnesota DNR.
"All schools work toward the same goal... connecting students to the natural world while building each student’s self-esteem, sense of community, skill level, and knowledge base. The DNR helps by ensuring that school forests stay well-used and healthy long-term," according to the Minnesota DNR web page about school forests.
Action Items
Harambee Elementary School Forest Resolution
The board will be voting on a resolution to designate a school forest at Harambee Elementary School, which will be submitted with the school forest application to the Minnesota DNR. This designation would provide Harambee with access to a variety of resources and support,
Roseville Area Schools Language Access Plan
Carrie Ardito, executive director of communications, and Lourdes Flores-Hanson, multilingual program administrator, will present the district's Language Access Plan. A school board must adopt a language access plan that specifies the district's process and procedures to provide effective language assistance to students and families who communicate in a language other than English, per state law.
The language access plan includes information for parents and students about their rights under state and federal law, and the school district's commitment and process for ensuring families receive information from the school in a language they understand.
Reports
Finally, the meeting will conclude with individual school board director reports and the superintendent's report. These reports usually include the formal and informal activities that each person has been involved with around the district or representing the district at various events.

School Board meetings are open to the public unless a closed session is part of the agenda. Meetings are held in the Fairview Room at Aŋpétu Téča Education Center (1910 County Road B West in Roseville). Meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, except July.
